The Best Surviving Mars Mods

What are the best Surviving Mars mods for PC? Actually, there are over 800 Surviving Mars mods in the Steam workshop alone. If you combine the mods from Nexusmods and Paradox Interactive, you will be lost before you know what you want to download. Luckily, Promodskin will give you the best list of mods based on their popularity and download counts.

Before we jump into the list, let’s have a quick recap on this new simulation game. Surviving Mars is a video game developed by Haemimont Games and published by Paradox Interactive. It is a base-building, colony building simulator game set on Mars. The publisher tried to go as realistic as possible with science as being discussed (nowadays) of possible Mars colonization.

This game has a very interesting presentation on the importance of concrete. There’s gonna be a fair amount of customization in terms of your initial setup of the game. You can choose your sponsor (or choose random) for your international Mars mission like: USA, Blue Sun Corporation, China, India, Europe, SpaceY, Church of the New Ark, Russia.

Surviving Mars Buildings Mods

Smarter Worker AI

Work smarter

This mod by Thorik change how the colonists are working. This will make them more efficient and effective because they will only work OUTSIDE of their field if there is no work available inside the dome.

Download link

Pros:

  • Colonists works smarter.
  • They will only shift to other things if there is no free slots in the dome for their specialization.

Cons:

  • Some players are experiencing “Colonists just standing around doing nothing” after the new update.

Cemetery

Cemetery

This is one of the mods created by Haemimont Games. You can download it here.

Pros:

  • The colonists won’t just disappear ingame. There’s a nice place for them to rest, lol.
  • Penalties suffered by colonists’ deaths are reduced while there is a cemetery built.
  • Newborn colonists gain positive traits from buried colonists.

Cons:

  • There’s a bug that every time someone dies in a dome that doesn’t have this a box pops up to remind you to build one.

Nurseries Limit Births

Nurseries Limit Births

The mod by Thorik limits the number of births to open slots available in the dome nurseries. Nurseries limits birth choose the domes in which the population will grow by simply constructing nurseries in them. Their number and open slots will dictate the growth rate.

Pros:

  • Now you can mark a dome as a Birth Dome with a button toggle (added in the dome window).
  • Such domes will receive births from other domes, so you can concentrate your nurseries in one place.

Cons:

  • Normal Domes will still prioritise their own Nurseries.
  • Birth Domes are only used if there are no free slots locally.

Drone Load Balancing

Drone Load Balancing

This mod by Draco18s automatically reassigns drones from low-load hubs to heavy-load hubs every hour. Drones are moved from the highest-population low-load hub to the lowest-population heavy-load hub in order to balance the load between hubs.

If Mod Config is available, the number of drones reassigned every hour is configurable. Otherwise the default value of 2 is used (range: 1-10).

Reassigns are handled via converting drones to prefabs and reconstructing them, avoiding travel time and possible battery issues. Low-load hubs with fewer than 5 drones are never considered. Stockpiles of drone prefabs will be assigned to heavy-load hubs at the same rate, if enabled via Mod Config.

Pros:

  • You can reassign drones from low to heavy load automatically.

Cons:

  • Sometimes, you won’t see the alarm trigger once you got the drone swarm deck.

Rocket Landing Pad

Rocket Landing Pad

This mod by ErrantSword introduces a basic Rocket Hardstanding to Surviving Mars. This can be found in the ‘Infrastructure’ build category. It does not effect Rocket operations, although a more advanced Mod may be developed in the future.

The Hardstanding is ideal for reserving dedicated areas for Rocket operations, and for general cosmetic use. It requires very low maintenance and can tolerate the high quantities of Dust generated by Rockets (although other nearby structures may be affected as normal). The Hardstanding can be demolished as usual.

The tarmac / gravelled area closely approximates the ‘footprint’ of a landed Rocket, while the additional rough concrete surround prevents blast scarring to nearby terrain. Rockets should be landed with the Lamp Projector in the rear ‘notch’ of the Rocket footprint. Power is connected by running a Cable into (or under) the Wall Node behind the lamp. This Wall Node has been pre-positioned to allow use of the ‘Base Walls’ Mod to enclose the Hardstanding.

Unlike most Mods, ‘Rocket Hardstanding’ can be activated and will appear within a previously saved game.

Download link

Cons:

  • Drones can ‘clip’ through the Wall Node. This is necessary to ensure the Hardstanding can be maintained even when occupied.
  • Without maintenance being enabled, no visual Dust accumulation could take place when the Hardstanding is in use.

More Dome Buildings

More Dome Buildings

(Mod by FGRaptor )More Buildings for domes including many service buildings and Spires. The added variety of service buildings should let you find something that fits every dome. The new Dome Service buildings can be found in their own Build Category, “More Dome Services”.

Save Game Compatibility

Should be safe to install for a running game. Before removing this mod, I suggest you scrap all buildings added by this mod.
The Technology unlock will check your researched technologies when you load a savegame.

Mod Compatibility

Most likely compatible with anything as this only adds new buildings.

Download link

Pros:

  • Spacepub
  • First Class Diner
  • Shopping Center
  • Gym
  • Game Arcade
  • Market Center
  • Food Arcade
  • Dome Spires
  • Mega Mall

Cons:

  • All buildings use existing models / textures / colour schemes (I need more time to figure out how to make them look different)
  • The Shopping Center and Mega Mall needs to have more services, but currently it seems to be limited to 4 per building. I also tried adding more via upgrades but it did not work so far.

Smarter Migration AI

Smarter Migration AI

Mod by Thorik. Specialists not working in their profession will migrate as soon as there will be an open slot in workplace of their specialization in any nearby dome. They will also migrate if they find a workplace matching their specialization where non-specialists work.

There are 3 cases of migration:

  • Specialist going to specialized work – a specialist has found out that he can migrate to a dome where he would be a better worker than some non-specialist in specialized workplace. Non-specialist is kicked out from this workplace in result. They also swap homes.
  •  Unemployed OR homeless going to a dome, which has BOTH work and residence – quite similar to vanilla behavior
for these cases domes’ filters have to be at least equal.
  • Children and not-working seniors migrating according to the filters – these groups are controlled only by the filter and residence availability

Download link

Pros:

  • The mod respects the Dome filters.

Cons:

  • Some specialists don’t enter the dome. Sometimes you need to do it manually.

Trace’s Content Pack

Here is Trace Projectile ‘Content Pack’ mod for Surviving Mars. It was originally released as the first cut content restoration patch, however there was only about six items added, so he changed to adding items that he felt were missing and lore-friendly.

For now he mainly doing buildings, so here are three types of asset included:

  1. Decorations and items that are finished but removed from the release copies.
  2. Things that don’t have a model, but either me or old devlogs suggest are missing.
  3. Buildings that himself added to fill gaps or add variety. Space or resource balanced.

Download link

Cons:

  • Currently includes two cut crops (e.g. coffee), a few cut buildings (e.g. ampitheatre), and his own additions to add variety that are NOT cut content (e.g. arcade, restaurant, mansion).

More (Endless) Resource Buildings

More (Endless) Resource Buildings

Extractors (without need for deposits) for early- and endgame for metals, concrete and water. Also a mass-production Artificial Sun.

Some buildings are unlocked through existing technologies in the game. Mod by FGRaptor

Download link

Cons:

  • Most likely compatible with anything as this only adds new buildings.
  • All buildings use existing models / textures / colour schemes (I need more time to figure out how to make them look different)

ExtractorAvailableDeposit

ExtractorAvailableDeposit

This mod by akarnokd displays the available deposit under an Extractor building in the Info Panel.

Pros:

  • The value is already visible in the rollover tooltip of the Production section in the vanilla game, this mod just makes sure it is shown in the Production section.
  • It mods the generic Mine-Panel and should work for custom mining buildings of other mods.

Cons:

  • Don’t forget to read the tooltip. Some users tries to click to check the remaining numbers but didn’t work for concrete.
